PROVET's domain controller, file server, and print server ran on unsupported, end-of-life Windows Server 2008 and were approaching failure. Users were already on Office 365 and a SaaS ERP, while critical files remained on-premises — a fragmented, hard-to-manage hybrid setup. Local storage was capped at ~2TB with no room for growth and no automated backup or disaster recovery, while the environment had no encryption at rest, no centralised access control, and no audit trail — risk that increased with every passing month.

Managed File Server: Amazon FSx for Windows File Server replaces the physical file server with a fully managed, high-performance solution — users access files as just another drive on their desktop.

Active Directory on AWS: Microsoft AD deployed on EC2 across two Availability Zones, synchronised with Azure AD and on-premises for unified identity management.

Secure Hybrid Connectivity: Site-to-Site VPN with a FortiGate Next-Gen Firewall on EC2 connects the on-premises environment to AWS through a private, encrypted tunnel.

Automated Backup & Recovery: FSx daily automatic backups with 7-day retention, plus AWS Backup and S3 for long-term archival — no manual intervention needed.

Enterprise Monitoring: CloudWatch dashboards tracking CPU, memory, network, and storage across all infrastructure components.

Zero Workflow Disruption: End users connect to file shares via SMB seamlessly, while IT is freed from patching, deduplication, encryption, and backup tasks.
