Migrating & Modernising a Manufacturing IT Landscape on AWS
Modernising a manufacturing IT landscape while maintaining production continuity and cost discipline
Kri Kri's critical applications and 10+ SQL Server databases ran on ageing on-premises servers with limited redundancy, manual patching, and no automated disaster recovery. SQL Server licences were tied to local hardware, with manual backups and no automated failover, adding growing administrative overhead. Their existing AWS environment had also evolved organically — multiple entry points, no centralised firewall, and inconsistent subnet design. With a €27M investment programme and a future SAP S/4HANA migration on the horizon, the architecture needed to be extensible, resilient, and cost-optimised from the start.
LCM Go Cloud delivered a phased migration and modernisation programme across three layers:
Migration & Compute Layer: EC2 instances for ERP, production planning, logistics, and sales applications; SCADA WinCC for biogas monitoring; Employee Self Service (ESS) portal; iAnyWhere dairy sales application; S3-hosted Academy training videos.
Database Modernisation (Amazon RDS): 10+ SQL Server databases migrated to Amazon RDS for SQL Server with a License Included model, eliminating separate Microsoft licences; auto-scaling storage up to 16 TB without downtime.
Network & Security Architecture: VPC redesign with public, private app, and private database subnets; CheckPoint HA firewall cluster for north-south traffic inspection; Site-to-Site VPN to the Serres plant plus Client VPN for remote users; CloudFront CDN and AWS WAF for web application delivery; CloudWatch monitoring with SLA-backed support.
We modernised Kri Kri's database layer and network architecture without disrupting a single day of production — eliminating SQL Server licensing overhead and building a foundation ready for their next phase of growth, including SAP S/4HANA.
LCM Go Cloud redesigned Kri Kri's network architecture and modernised its database layer on AWS — eliminating licensing overhead, hardening security, and building a scalable foundation for future growth.
